Action Plan

Our organisation - Shift 8 - produces the Tovertafel. The Tovertafel, which means Magic Table in English, is a game for people with mid-to-late stage dementia, encouraging them to instinctively participate in order to stimulate both physical and social activity. The game consists of interactive light animations which are projected on any table and which motivate the mind and inspire those living with dementia to be active. The Magic Table was developed during the ongoing PhD research of our Dutch friend Hester Le Riche in collaboration with dementia care homes and therefore closely matches their needs and capabilities. A video made was recently featured on the BBC Website: https://tovertafel.co.uk/nieuwsbericht/tovertafel-featured-on-the-bbc-website/. You can also find more information on our products for adults with severe learning difficulties and children with autism at the following link: www.tovertafel.co.uk.

Commitment 1 - Relating to:

To enable people living with mid-to-late stage dementia to enjoy cognitive stimulation, physical activity and social interaction.

How will your organisation achieve Commitment 1?

By continuing to install the Tovertafel (Magic Table) in Care Homes, day centres and community areas throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland this year.

  • We have the right to continue with day to day and family life, without discrimination or unfair cost, to be accepted and included in our communities and not live in isolation or loneliness.

Commitment 2 - Relating to:

To support people to take part in our product research.

How will your organisation achieve Commitment 2?

We will continue to design our research in a way that ensures that people living with dementia can decide whether they would like to be involved in the research. If they do, they will be supported through the process and products will be co-designed with them.

  • We have the right to know about and decide if we want to be involved in research that looks at cause, cure and care for dementia and be supported to take part.

Commitment 3 - Relating to:

To ensure optimal use of the Tovertafel and therefore optimal benefits for families and carers.

How will your organisation achieve Commitment 3?

Firstly, by assessing the most effective way this can be done. Secondly, by implementing it. Thirdly, by measuring the effectiveness of our intervention.

  • We have the right to continue with day to day and family life, without discrimination or unfair cost, to be accepted and included in our communities and not live in isolation or loneliness.
