Jewish Care is a leading communal organisation. It is the largest health and social care charity for the Jewish community in the UK, touching the lives of 10,000 people every week with a wide range of services from youth clubs to residential nursing homes. The organisation employs 1,300 staff from multi-cultural backgrounds together with 3,000 volunteers who help maintain our services.

Commitment 1 - Relating to:

Build upon and develop a culture of enablement, reablement, creativity and participation.

How will your organisation achieve Commitment 1?

Our Arts, Disability and Dementia Team will work with teams across Jewish Care through training programmes, mentoring and reflective practice.

  • We have the right to an early and accurate diagnosis, and to receive evidence based, appropriate, compassionate and properly funded care and treatment, from trained people who understand us and how dementia affects us. This must meet our needs, wherever we live.

Commitment 2 - Relating to:

We will continue to work to make the Jewish Community dementia friendly.

How will your organisation achieve Commitment 2?

Our Dementia Friends Champions will work to reach more synagogues and communities with dementia friends' sessions.

  • We have the right to continue with day to day and family life, without discrimination or unfair cost, to be accepted and included in our communities and not live in isolation or loneliness.

Commitment 3 - Relating to:

Our Community Support and Social Work Services will work with people living with dementia and their carers to ensure they have advocacy, information, support and advice.

How will your organisation achieve Commitment 3?

Our Community Support and Social Work Team has a dedicated team with additional dementia training and expertise.

  • We have the right to be respected, and recognised as partners in care, provided with education, support, services, and training which enables us to plan and make decisions about the future.

Commitment 4 - Relating to:

We will introduce and train our staff in the Montessori Inspired Lifestyle so that residents living in our homes will have opportunities to participate meaningfully in the daily life of the home and retain their sense of worth and fulfilment.

How will your organisation achieve Commitment 4?

Our OT and Dementia trainers will implement a comprehensive programme on the Montessori Inspired Lifestyle within our homes. We will monitor and assess its effectiveness and share learning.

  • We have the right to be recognised as who we are, to make choices about our lives including taking risks, and to contribute to society. Our diagnosis should not define us, nor should we be ashamed of it.
